It’s becoming quite a common occurrence for me to state this but, Gulen and Selim are quite simply one of the nicest couples I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. What can I say, karma just keeps on bringing me these lovely people 🙂
The wedding day started out over at the groom’s local barbers where Selim, his best man and brother had themselves spruced up for the day ahead. (Said barber then ended up cutting some shapes on the dance floor in the evening as a guest which gave me a little ironic giggle later in the day…*cough* Swiftly moving on). I then spent a lovely couple of hours over with the bride and her bridal party during their morning prep before heading to Hylands Estate in Chelmsford.
The ceremony took place in the Banquet Room of Hylands House which is lavishly decorated with 24 carat gold leaf swag and scroll decorations, silk lined walls and hand painted wall motifs, making it a beautiful setting as Selim nervously waited for Gulen to walk down the isle.
In true “British Summer” fashion the skies opened up right after the wedding ceremony and it rained, that torrential kind of rain that you don’t really want on your wedding day. But you know what, this didn’t change a thing during the champagne reception and everyone was happy to enjoy the gorgeous interior of Hylands House till it was time to move onto the marquee.
When the skies eventually cleared I headed out with Selim and Gulen to grab a few portraits and I must say the gardens looked particularly pretty with the vibrant Wisteria in full bloom. Selim successfully handled the tricky task of keeping Gulen’s dress in tact and off the floor while we walked down the path way to the gardens which was so worth it for the portraits that we managed to capture.
The bride and groom then made their grand entrance with the talented Ahenkli davul and zurna playing the traditional Turkish Weddings drum and violin, which is a part of the wedding day that I love. As Selim himself put it, “ten, ten” for a brilliant wedding full of belly laughs, hugs and amazing dance moves to finish the day off in style.
